More about Thai Yoga Massage

What is Thai Yoga Massage?
It is a bodywork technique which works like an assisted yoga session. The movements open the joints, release tension from the muscles and stretch the body by working on energy lines and pressure points to restore balance in the energetic system of prana/chi.

What to expect from a Thai Yoga Massage session
The bodywork takes place on a futon mattress on the floor and lasts approximately one hour. The recipient should wear comfortable loose fitting clothes. The session will work the whole body sequentially - feet, legs, abdomen, chest, arms, back, neck, head and face. Pressure is applied using hands, feet, arms and legs to massage and guide the body into a variety of assisted stretches. Some of the stretches are similar to yoga poses, hence the title ‘yoga massage’. A certain level of stretch and pressure will be felt but no pain should be experienced. Overall the treatment aims to stretch and release the whole body bringing balance to the muscular skeletal system, harmonising the energetic system and bringing a deep sense of peace and quiet to your day.

Some background information
Traditional Thai Massage is an ancient healing art originating from the Buddhist and Ayurvedic traditions. The founder is believed to be a doctor from Northern India known as Jivaka Kumar Bhaccha. The technique was practiced, developed and passed on by monks and nuns in the temples of India and Thailand. During the 1980s, Asokananda (Harald Brust), a native German, became arguably the leading Western teacher of Traditional Thai Yoga Massage. He researched and taught Thai massage, yoga and Vipassana meditation for more than 15 years and trained some of the most established teachers of Thai massage around today.
